Charlotte was born in Birmingham and by 1911 had married Percy Vernon - a director of the Coventry firm Messrs. Alfred Herbet Ltd one of the world's largest machine tool manufacturing businesses. Charlotte was active in the Coventry Women's Suffrage Society and sat on its committee in 1914. The couple had one daughter Diana, who sadly passed away suddenly in 1926 aged 15 after returning home from boarding school. Charlotte's husband died just two years later in 1928.
